In maths we are learning about fractions, percentages and decimals. A few weeks ago we learnt how to add two fractions together.

RULE:You have to make sure that the denominators are the same.

1. You have to check the denominators to see if they are the same or not.

2. I f there not the same you have to change them both or sometimes you can just change one

RULE: Whatever you do to the bottom you must do to the top

3. If the sum was 1/2 + 1/3 you have to change the smaller denominator in this case it is the 2 but because the 2 can’t go evenly into the 3 you have to change them both.

4. So to change the denominator in this case you multiply 2 by 3 and 3 by 2 which makes it 1/6 + 1/6 and because whatever you do to the top you have to do to the bottom you have to multiply 1 by 2 and 1 by 3 which then makes the sum 2/6 + 3/6

5. Finally you add both fractions 2/6 +3/6 = 5/6 you add the numerators and keep the denominators so it equals 5/6

Hopefully you now know how to add two fractions and how to change denominators to make them the same.

I hope you learn something
